Vor rund einem Monat ist John „Pappy“ Mazza Jr. bei einem tragischen Unfall (kein Flugunfall) ums Leben gekommen. Wir haben Pappy kennengelernt, als wir zweimal nach Virginia Beach gereist sind, um die Sammlung von Gerald „Jerry“ Yagen zu besichtigen. Pappy war viele Jahre Pilot des Military Aviation Museums und liebte es insbesondere, Spitfire zu fliegen. Wir werden seinen unvergleichlichen Humor und die tollen, inhaltlich fruchtbaren Gespräche über die Warbird-Fliegerei vermissen.

Georg sagt: „Jetzt wo ich selbst die Spitfire flog, könnte ich mir noch viele Tipps von ihm holen. Ich glaube, wir müssen das auf einen späteren Zeitpunkt verschieben.“

Unsere Gedanken sind bei seiner Familie und allen Angehörigen.

About a month ago, John “Pappy” Mazza Jr. lost his life in a tragic accident (not aviation-related). We met Pappy during two visits to Virginia Beach, where we had the opportunity to explore the collection of Gerald “Jerry” Yagen. Pappy had been a pilot at the Military Aviation Museum for many years and had a particular love for flying the Spitfire. We will miss his incomparable sense of humor and the insightful, inspiring conversations we shared with him about warbird flying.

Georg says: “Now that I’ve flown the Spitfire myself, I could have used so many more of his tips. I suppose we’ll have to postpone that to another time.”

Our thoughts are with his family and all who were close to him.
